In 1999 EG excavated his first SOIL for a Terragraphy project in Asia.
In the middle of the biggest continent, in the Transhimalayan mountains, KAILAS, the most Sacred Mountain of the world towers, named by the Tibetans Gang Rinpoche - the ice jewel. At its foot the four big rivers Indus, Brahmaputra, Sadletsch and Karnali rise. For more than a thousand years Hindi and Buddhist, Dschain and Bön have circumnavigated this perfect mountain, the navel of the world, to receive its blessing, to improve their Karma and to eradicate the sins of a life time.
A mandala of the pilgrimage consists of five poles, each symbolizing an element and its corresponding deity. These five correspond to the five basic types of human experience and the universe itself. Every Dhyani-Buddha or Jina presides over one of the five directions of the universe, the four cardinal points and the centre.
The four Earth Art Works were produced with SOIL from the four sides of the mountain:
SOUTH - The empire of Ratnasambhava
(The ones born with a jewel),
his mount is the peacock - his river the Karnali
(The river from the peacock’s beak),
his element is EARTH - his colour YELLOW
WEST - The empire of Amitabha
(The one with immense light),
his mount is the elephant - his river the Sadletsch
(The river from the elephant’s mouth),
his element is FIRE - his colour RED
NORTH - The empire of Amoghasiddhi
(The one who persists in his purpose),
his mount is the lion - his river the Indus
(The river from the lion’s mouth),
his element is AIR - his colour GREEN
EAST - The empire of Akshobhya (The unshakeable)
his mount is the horse - his river the Brahmaputra
