THE DEEP

The subject of this ERDBILD project is the geothermal development project in Graben-Neudorf in the Upper Rhine Valley, currently the most advanced project of Deutsche ErdWärme and the hottest geothermal borehole in Germany.

The reservoir, which is located in red sandstone, is expected to reach temperatures of over 160 degrees Celsius. These are ideal conditions for the construction of a geothermal plant that can be used to produce both electricity and heat.

Material from eight different geological formations and geological eras dating back 27 to 243 million years and from depths of between 1,000 and 3,800 metres is being extracted for this project.
